Frequently Asked Questions
White Collar Boxing Training FAQ
Clear answers on how white collar boxing works, what to expect at your first Barnet gym session, and how we prepare you safely for the ring.
Training & Eligibility
What is white collar boxing?
White collar boxing originated in the late 1980s as a structured way for men and women in professional and executive roles to train like competitive boxers and participate in regulated bouts, typically raising money for charity. Bouts usually consist of three two-minute rounds using 16oz gloves and protective headgear.
Do I need any prior boxing experience to join?
No. Our Basic / Beginner Boxing Training tier is specifically designed for complete novices. We teach stance, balance, footwork, guard position, and punch mechanics from scratch before introducing advanced combinations.
Do I have to compete in a fight night to train with you?
Not at all. More than half of our members train strictly for cardiovascular conditioning, strength, stress relief, and skill development without ever stepping into a competitive bout.
Safety, Sparring & Equipment
Is sparring mandatory?
Sparring is never forced on beginners. You only progress to controlled, supervised technical sparring once your defence, conditioning, and composure have been signed off by Gary Foley or Sean Murphy.
What equipment do I need for my first session?
For your first introductory session, comfortable sportswear, indoor trainers, a towel, and water are sufficient. Once you train regularly, we recommend your own 180-inch hand wraps, 16oz training gloves, and a custom-fitted gumshield.
